This handcrafted cup was fired in Dūkštos Anagama wood kiln, a traditional Japanese single-chamber kiln known for its dramatic, unpredictable, and deeply atmospheric surface effects. Ceramic artist Beatričė Kelerienė uses this ancient firing method to allow flame, ash, and time to shape each piece uniquely—no glaze is painted on; instead, the natural ash carried by the fire melts into a glassy surface, creating subtle gradients and earthy tones.

The cup displays a rich interplay of warm browns, smoky greys, and golden ash deposits, with textures that shift from matte to glossy depending on how the fire touched the clay. Its sturdy handle and balanced form make it a pleasure to hold, while its surface tells the story of a multi-day firing, stoking, and the living movement of flame.
