Small vase

This anagama fired vase with a rounded base. Hand build out of the german clay, while burning in anagama the part of the vase was covered with ember. That side of the bowl features a dramatic array of colors and textures- from semi-gloss to ash-speckled matte gray and brown. There are also subtle winding smoky black veins that impart additional surface complexity. Excellent sample of angama reduction effects that creates rugged surface. Another side of the vase is gently covered with ashes, looks like softly collored.

This piece is hand built stoneware, high fired in Karmazinu Anagama to vitrification at 1300 degrees centigrade to eliminate porosity, thus allowing the pieces to be used in the oven, freezer and dishwasher but nevertheless can break from mishandle.
